Retracing the footsteps of kings, peasants and heroic warriors on their route to battle, we relive the nervous moments before battle commences. Entering the field and pinpointing the battle site we learn how the very land beneath our feet affected the outcomes of these iconic, turning point events. Combining drone footage with simple, yet effective, graphics we illustrate the tactical nuances and moments of genius that secured one side’s victory.

Episode 2

Rob Bell investigates the Battle of Hastings, one of the best-known and most important battles in English history. The battle took place on 14th October 1066 and resulted in the death of the Anglo-Saxon King Harold and the defeat of his army, at the hands of an invasion fleet lead by Duke William of Normandy. The bloody events of the battle were immortalised in the Bayeux Tapestry which appears to show King Harold dying with an arrow through his eye, but Rob learns that the story may not be as simple as that!

Episode 1

Rob Bell investigates the Battle of Bannockburn, one of the most famous contests in the Scottish Wars of Independence against the English. The battle took place on 24th June 1314 and saw King Robert the Bruce win a key victory over the English forces of King Edward II. It was a major achievement given that the Scottish army was outnumbered two-to-one.
